FAQ

Length of Stay

How long is the average stay at Resolution Ranch? The length of stay can vary depending on the student’s needs, but the average stay is 6-10 months, with the typical stay being eight months.

Do you have a minimum stay requirement? Yes. We feel that it is in your son’s best interest to have time to adapt and progress within our program at a pace tuned to his needs. We ask that every student stays at the Ranch for a minimum of 6 months, but our program builds on itself over the five levels of achievement, which usually takes 6-9 months. If you are looking for more of a short-term stay of 3 months, we may not be the program you are looking for.

How long will it take for my son to complete his academic courses? Academics are structured so students take one course at a time before moving on to the next. Each course is designed to be completed in 30 working days, but depending on the student and his needs, it could take more or less. We guide students along a schedule for completion but also consider happenings that may slow them down, such as a period of emotional turmoil.

How long will it take for my son to move up the FIVE  R.A.N.C.H. levels? Every student is different, and every level presents unique benefits and challenges to students. For this reason, how long it takes to move through the program varies and depends mainly on your son’s needs. However, length of time is not as important as a willingness to change. Our program is structured to be immersive and therapeutic at all levels, and progress is not only measured by levels but by personal growth and discovery.

Admissions and Financial

How long is the Admissions process?
Typically, our admissions process can take a week, but we work with each family to expedite the process if possible.

Do you offer financial aid?
We do not offer financial aid; however, we are happy to connect you with Prosper HealthCare Lending, a third-party lender that can assist in financing your child’s stay. You can learn more about this option here.

Communications with Your Son

How often can I call, visit, or write my child?
You can write your child as often as you like. Phone calls are limited to one 10-minute call per week (to start), and visits can occur for up to 2 days every three weeks (3 days for families coming from out of state). This is all contingent on resident behavior, therapist recommendations, and what is best for your son’s recovery. During your son’s first 30 days, contact is through letters only. This is our incubation period to help the young man focus on what he needs to learn to move forward instead of focusing on what is happening at home.

I live out of state. How can I participate in Family Therapy?
For out-of-state students, Family Therapy can be arranged during your family’s visit to the Ranch. Your son’s therapist will assess and recommend the frequency of these sessions according to what he feels is clinically necessary.

Our Procedures

What happens if my child gets sick?
For routine medical issues, Resolution Ranch uses the medical services of Scott & White in Temple, Texas.

Is my child supervised at all times?
A staff member must be with your child seven days a week, 24 hours per day.

Do you employ corporal punishment?
Resolution Ranch does not use corporal punishments in the discipline at any time. If a student’s behavior requires discipline, we do so through learning experiences to encourage them to reflect on their actions and consequences. Learning experiences may include extra duties/chores, insight writing assignments, talk ban, loss of privileges, or productive work. For more information on our methods of discipline, please download the Parent Packet.

Life After the Ranch

What can I expect when the program ends?
As your son approaches graduation, we work on ways for him and your family to transition successfully to life outside the Ranch when he returns home. This includes setting boundaries and expectations through a written contract for all family members to sign. Your son’s therapist will also be available for regular phone calls during his first two months after the program ends. We aim to empower your son to continue on his path with confidence and independence.

After my son graduates from the Resolution Ranch program, will his high school credits from the Ranch transfer to another school?
Yes, Resolution Ranch is a SACS-accredited school, and we ensure that all our courses are fully transferable to any high school, boarding school, and college across the country. You can learn more about our academic program here.
