Scott McGarrahan founded Resolution Ranch in March of 2004 with the goal of helping teen boys grow and address their problems in a positive, nurturing environment.
Scott grew up in Arlington, Texas and attended the University of New Mexico.
Before founding the Ranch, Scott spent eight years playing professional football in the National Football League, where he played for the Green Bay Packers, Miami Dolphins, Tennessee Titans and San Diego Chargers.
While playing for the Titans, Scott realized he wanted to do something that would help young men in the same way that football had been a positive influence in his own life. Throughout his career, Scott had volunteered for such organizations as the Habitat for Humanity, Childrenís Miracle Network, and the D.A.R.E. program, but he realized he could have the greatest impact by creating a facility specializing in counseling and academics for adolescent boys.
When heís not working, Scott enjoys fishing, playing golf and spending time with his wife Lindsay and his two daughters Lucy and Georgia.
Neal Staab, LCCA
Neal Staab is a licensed child-care administrator who joined Resolution Ranch in 2005 as the Administrator. Neal joins the Ranch with 8 years of experience in residential care. He is a member of The International Association of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certified Instructorsģ, the international standard for violence prevention and intervention training.
Neal holds degrees in sociology and criminal justice from the University of Texas, El Paso (UTEP), where he was on a full athletic scholarship for football. Nealís tough experiences as a youth and later as a student athlete have taught him discipline, consistency and the ability to overcome adversity. These lessons have helped him better relate to residents and build relationships that contribute to their success.
When he's not at the Ranch, Neal lives in Irving with his wife and baby girl Emery. His hobbies include weight lifting, CrossFit, and playing basketball with Ranch residents.
Chris Langley moved to Texas and became Program Director at Resolution Ranch in 2005. Chris is in charge of treatment planning and intake assessment coordination.
Chris graduated from La Sierra University in 1996 with a bachelors of science in psychology with a clinical emphasis. He then attended Loma Linda University, where he received his masters in marriage and family science as well as certificates in alcohol drug abuse and family life education. Chris is also an AMFT Member.
After graduation, Chris worked as a therapist and case manager at Rancho Damacitas, a group home for boys with severe emotional and behavioral issues. There he advanced to Intake Coordinator and then Program Director. Chris next served as Social Services Manager/Intake Coordinator at St. Frances Home for Children, a foster home in Sacramento.
Chris is a member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy and has completed numerous continuing education classes focused on addiction and behavior issues related to teenage boys. He is a Licensed Child-Care Administrator and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. In his spare time, youíll find him reading or playing basketball.
Alex came to Resolution Ranch in January of 2013 as the Case Manager.
Alex received her Bachelors of Science in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse in 2011. Prior to joining the ranch's team, Alex worked at Sacks Clinical Consulting writing state reports and Stepwise Clinic, a neuropsychology clinic in South Bend, Indiana, teaching kids how to learn.
Originally from Wisconsin, Alex was involved in programs such as Horse Sense for Special Riders, UW-L Psychology Club, and tutoring. Some of her hobbies include playing piano, reading, writing, horseback riding, exercising, and spending time outdoors.
Chad joined the Resolution Ranch staff in February 2013. He received his Masterís in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and completed a double major in Communication and Behavioral Sciences at Concordia University Texas.
During his time at Concordia, Chad was a member of the Tornado baseball team and a three-time All-Conference selection. While working on his masterís degree at UMHB, he was the assistant baseball coach for three years. Chad has experience in individual, group, couples, and family therapy. He has worked with college students at the UMHB Counseling and Testing Center, members of the military at the HomeFront Center, and members of the community at the Community Life Center.
In his free time, Chad enjoys watching college sports, playing PlayStation, and spending time with his wife and 2 miniature schnauzers
Matt joined the Resolution Ranch team in June 2013 as a therapist. At the ranch, he conducts individual, group and family therapy sessions for a portion of the residents.
Matt grew up in Belton, Texas and received a bachelorís degree in English from Texas A&M University. He received a masterís degree in Counseling Psychology from Texas A&M University-Central Texas in 2013.
Prior to working at Resolution Ranch, Matt worked for a number of years in family law. His has a passion for helping adolescent boys lead happy and full lives. This led him to seek a career in counseling. He has prior experience with counseling substance abuse clients as well.
In his spare time, Matt enjoys hunting, fishing and watching college football. Most of all, Matt enjoys spending time with his wife, Jenny and daughter Libby.
Shawn Talbot began working at Resolution Ranch in April of 2011. He is currently serving as the Equine Program Director, and certified in the EAGALA Model of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Equine Assisted Learning. He has a Bachelorís degree in Psychology, and is a member of the National School of Collegiate Scholars. He is currently working on a Master of Arts in Psychology.
Shawnís horsemanship runs deep. He grew up breaking and training horses, as well as jockeying. Over several years, he worked for large operations which won national events in Thoroughbred Racing, Harness Racing, and Reining Horses. For several more years, Shawn ran his own Thoroughbred Racing operation.
Shawn is deeply committed to helping young men overcome their trials, and rise to their full potential. He works very closely with the residents to help them get the most out of their experiences with the horses. The equine therapy program, at Resolution Ranch, has proven to be extremely beneficial to residents as they work towards personal goals and resolutions.
Shawn is married to Laurel Talbot, is a devout member of his faith, and enjoys reading and Golfing. He loves spending time with his wife & family, particularly watching his daughter play tennis.
Director of Education
In April 2013, Kelly Brown joined the education department at Resolution Ranch. Kelly graduated with honors from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in music. While attending undergraduate school, she focused on educational psychology and conducted research on ideal teaching and learning methodologies.
Kelly has been a volunteer tour guide for the Bell County Museum, a math tutor for The Princeton Review, and an assistant to professors of the University of Mary Hardin Baylor English department. She is also experienced in mentoring at-risk youth and assisting struggling families. Most recently, Kelly worked as a family coach for Aware Central Texas, an organization aimed at preventing child abuse and mending broken homes.
In her free time, Kelly enjoys adventures with her husband Colton, her cat Arwen, and her dog Kachina. She also enjoys performing with her folk-rock band and songwriting. In fact, Kelly exercises her passion for the arts at the ranch by coordinating art activities that take place every Wednesday.
Eric joined Resolution Ranch as the Curriculum Coordinator in 2008. He is responsible for supervising the teachers, managing student graduation plans, as well as implementing specialized learning programs. Eric is the Liaison to all outside educational institutions and he specializes in Math, Science, and Study Skills.
Eric received his degree in Multi-Disciplinary Sciences from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He is also a member of NSTA, the National Science Teachers Association.
After college Eric went to work for Austin ISD at the Austin Alternative Learning Center where he dealt with teen struggling with drugs, teen violence, gangs and extreme situations including violence toward teachers. Eric has worked most of his career with teens in crisis as a volunteer and as a professional. He also was instrumental in the accreditation of Resolution Ranch through SACS the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Eric is married to Tammy and the father of one, a boy named Marley. His hobbies include hiking, camping, poetry, playing the flute and drums.
Matt joined the Resolution Ranch education team in the spring of 2013. He edits and publishes the Ranch Star newsletter. Matt is Texas Education Agency certified to teach middle and high school English and Social Studies. Matt earned his BA in English Literature and Writing from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA, and completed his Professional Year Teacher Certification graduate degree at University of Pittsburgh.
Throughout his teaching career, Matt has experience at public, parochial, and private schools in three states including Keystone Oaks High School, Winchester Thurston Academy, and St Gabriel's School in Pittsburgh, PA; Phillips Academy in Andover, MA, Cohasset Middle School in Cohasset, MA, and City on a Hill Charter School in Roxbury, MA; and Temple Charter Academy in Temple, TX. Matt is also a freelance writer and photographer for Killeen Daily Herald.
In his spare time, Matt trains for the Tough Mudder run, and enjoys playing guitar and ukulele. He loves to travel, cook, and camp. Matt's wife Meredith teaches theater in Killeen, TX, and together, they are Harold the cat's guardians.
Dominic M. Bihr
Overall Child Care Worker Supervisor
Dominic joined Resolution Ranch as Direct Care Staff in 2009 before being promoted to his current position of CCWS. His responsibilities include supervising direct care staff, progam implementation, running bi-weekly CCWS portion of treatment team meetings, as well ensuring the safety and security of students and staff.
After College Dominic or "Dom" as he is most often referred to worked at Wyhndam Lawn RTC in Lockport, New York. There he was a counselor and worked with gang members, juvenille offenders and Child Protective Services appointed children.
Dom has his cetification in Non Violent Crisis Intervention. He also finished first in his class in college and is the President of his Human Services Club. He is married to Raechel Bihr and currently has no kids. He enjoys spending time with his wife and adopted dog Attica. His hobbies are playing golf whenever he gets a chance.
Janie came to Resolution Ranch in July of 2013 as The Office Manager. Janie attended Eastville College in Dallas to work on achieving her Associates as a Chemical Dependency Counselor. Prior to joining the ranch, Janie worked with the Child Protective Services and a Behavior Unit for elders struggling with Dementia.
She is responsible for initial enrollment paperwork for all residents, preparing bi-monthly progress reports, facilitating graduations, streamlining direct careís paperwork, and overall office manager duties as well as greeting all incoming phone calls.
Some of her hobbies include softball, spending time with her two children Mario and Mariana, having family dinners every weekend, and being outdoors.
Carla joined Resolution Ranch in 2005. Prior to being an Executive Assistant Carla was the Case Manager from 2005-2012. She is responsible for providing support to the executive team at Resolution Ranch. Carla graduated from Sam Houston State in 1982 with a bachelors of science in criminology and corrections. She received her masters in counseling psychology at Tarleton State in 2005.
Carla did her practicum at Central Texas Counsel on Alchoholism and Drug abuse. After graduation, Carla came to work at Resolution Ranch as a case manager.
Carla is a member of Psi Chi , The Intenational Honor Society in Psychology. She also has a certificate in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills. Carla is the proud parent of Shannon who is a sophomore at Blinn College. She is also goes by "Carla Cream Soda" because she's never with out an A&W Cream Soda. Her hobbies including reading true crime and carpentery.
